From local to national
Nyanza Estates has a rich history rooted in the fertile soils of Juliasdale in the Eastern Highlands. Our journey began in the 1950s with the cultivation of proteas, a vibrant flower that thrived while we carefully planted our first orchards. These early orchards were dedicated to stone fruits—apricots, peaches, and plums—alongside a few scattered apple and pear trees. As the land blossomed, so did our vision.
In the mid-1980s, we introduced youngberries to our Estate, marking a turning point as we shifted our focus towards fruit production for jams. The success of our youngberries paved the way for other fruits like strawberries and gooseberries, and as our fruit varieties grew, so did our passion for creating high-quality jams. With this expansion came the decision to phase out proteas and dedicate ourselves fully to fruit cultivation and jam production.
What started as a local endeavour soon gained wider recognition. As demand for our products increased, we built strong relationships with local farmers, sourcing additional fruits from growers within a 20km radius of our jam kitchens. This commitment to sourcing locally ensures that the fruit we use is always freshly picked at the peak of ripeness, capturing the essence of the region’s bounty in every jar.
In 2022, we embarked on an exciting new chapter, expanding our orchards to include lemons, blackberries, blueberries, and figs. This growth not only allows us to introduce new varieties of jams but also inspired us to diversify into condiments and sauces. Our latest venture includes the creation of our own line of chilli sauces, crafted with the same dedication and care that has defined Nyanza Estates for decades.
From our local roots to national reach, Nyanza Estates continues to evolve while staying true to our heritage of handcrafting premium, farm-to-table products. From humble beginnings to our latest innovations, we remain committed to honouring the land, supporting our community, and delivering the highest quality products that have now become beloved across Zimbabwe.
